ESCAPE FROM MOGADISHU Tops Blue Dragon Film Awards with 6 Wins


 

Ryoo Seungwan’s action-drama Escape from Mogadishu came away as the big winner of this year’s 42nd Blue Dragon Film Awards. The box office hit picked up six awards, including Best Film and Best Director for Ryoo.

 

It was Ryoo’s third Best Director win at the awards, following The Unjust (2010) and Veteran (2015). Escape from Mogadishu also won Best Supporting Actor for Huh Joonho, Best Art Direction from Kim Bomuk, the Audience Choice Award for Most Popular Film and one of the Chung Jung One Popular Star Awards, which went to actor Koo Kyohwan.

 

Close behind with five awards was Lee Joonik’s acclaimed black and white period drama The Book of Fish, which saw Sul Kyunggu win his third Best Actor Award. He previously won for Peppermint Candy (2000) and Public Enemy (2002) and has been nominated a total of eight times. The Book of Fish also won the Best Screenplay Award (Kim Segyum), Best Music (Bang Junseok), Best Editing (King Junghoon), and Best Cinematography and Lighting (Lee Euitae).

 

Moon Sori won her first Best Actress Award at the Blue Dragon for Three Sisters (2020). It was her fourth nomination in the category. Moon’s Three Sisters co-star Kim Sunyoung won the Best Supporting Actress Award.

 

Best New Director went to Park Jiwan for THE DAY I DIED: UNCLOSED CASE (2020), Best New Actress was given to Gong Seungyeon of Aloners, and the Best New Actor Award was picked up by Jeong Jaegwang for NOT OUT.

 

In other awards, Jeong Seongjin and Jeong Cholmin won the Technical Award for their VFX work on Space Sweepers, the Chung Jung One Best Short Film Prize went to Motorcycle and Hamburger, and the remaining Chung Jung One Popular Star Awards were bestowed upon Lim Yoona, Song Joongki and Jeon Yeobeen.
