Lim Yoona, best known by her stage mononym Yoona, was born in 1990. Having passed an audition held by SM Entertainment in 2002, she trained for five years and started her career in entertainment in 2007 as a member of the girl group Girls’ Generation, which went on to become one of the flagbearers of the Korean Wave in Asia. Her first acting offers came soon after, with a first role in the rom-com series <Two Outs in the Ninth Inning> (2007). Her first leading role in the hit drama series <You Are My Destiny> (2008-2009) led her to receive the Baeksang Arts Award for Best New Actress in Television, on top of one of several trophies awarded that night to the Most Popular Actors in Television. The following years were marked by a steady string of roles in television, and in 2016, she started her solo singing career with a first single. The same year, she joined the cast of the Chinese period drama series <God of War, Zhao Yun> (2016). She then took on new challenges and widened her acting range with her role in the thriller series <The K2> (2016), and by moving to cinema, playing the sister-in-law of Yoo Hai Jin’s South Korea cop in the North-South buddy cop film <Confidential Assignment> (2017). After the successful release of her first EP in 2019, she scored a hit also in theaters as the co-lead in the disaster comedy <EXIT> (2019), a movie that defied expectations to top the box office and reach 1 million admissions in just two days, with a total haul of 9.4 million. In the drama series <Hush> (2020-2021), Lim starred alongside Hwang Jungmin as a new intern at a newsroom. She was back on the big screen in 2021 with the drama film <Miracle: Letters to the President>, playing against Park Jungmin and Lee Sungmin, and in 2022 she reprised her role in <Confidential Assignment2: International> (2021).
