Born in 1993, Gong Seungyeon entered the entertainment industry in 2004, when she was still in elementary school, after she drew the attention of an executive of SM Entertainment at a traditional folk music competition. A K-pop trainee between 2005 and 2012 who was expected to join a group at some point, she first appeared as an commercial model in 2012, but the minor role she had in the drama series <I Love Lee Taly> (2012) made her change her ambitions and so she decided to pursue a career in acting. After she moves do another talent agency, she appeared in a number of TV series, including <Heard It Through the Grapevine> (2015) and <Six Flying Dragons> (2015), the latter of which brought her to wider notice as she played a major supporting role for the first time. Soon after she was promoted to top billing in <The Master of Revenge> (2016), she was selected to co-host the popular weekly music program Inkigayo for the latter half of the year. 2017 was a busy year for Gong as she starred as the female lead in the Netflix period series <My Only Love Song> as well as in the SF series <Circle>, in addition to recurrent appearances in the workplace romcom <Introverted Boss>. In 2018, she starred alongside Seo Kangjoon in the SF romance <Are You Human?> before venturing onto the big screen with the short film <My Dream Class>, where she played against Byun Yohan. Headlining the indie drama <Aloners> (2021), her first feature film, Gong won the Best Acting Award from the Jeonju International Film Festival.
