Far East Film Festival Stages Yoon Jongbin Retrospective
Korean Films on Show as Udine Prepares Hybrid Event
Following last year’s online event, the Far East Film Festival (FEFF) in Udine is returning with a hybrid online/offline event later this month. This year’s 23rd edition will feature 11 Korean films, including a retrospective on director Yoon Jongbin, and will take place from June 24 to July 2.
Director and producer Yoon Jongbin burst onto the scene with the acclaimed indie The Unforgiven in 2005, featuring his college friend Ha Jungwoo, and hasn’t looked back since. This year’s FEFF program includes the ‘Power and Secrets: The Cinematic World of Yoon Jongbin section, which comprises the male bar-host drama Beastie Boys (2008), the period action film KUNDO : Age of the Rampant (2014), the gangster saga Nameless Gangster : Rules of the Time (2012) and the brooding spy yarn The Spy Gone North (2018). Director Yoon is currently preparing Suriname, a limited series for Netflix.
Recent Korean titles screening in Udine include Hong Wonchan’s noir action-thriller DELIVER US FROM EVIL (2020) with Hwang Jungmin and Lee Jungjae, Shin Jungwon’s SF horror-comedy Night of the Undead (2020), Lee Cheolha’s action-comedy OK! MADAM (2020) with Uhm Jeonghwa, Jung Yeonkyun’s indie film Please Don’t Save Me (2020), Lee Yongju’s SF action-drama SEOBOK with Gong Yoo and Park Bogum and Hong Euijeong’s black comedy Voice of Silence (2020) with Yoo Ahin.
FEFF will also stage a retrospective screening of Go Yeongnam’s classic horror film Suddenly in Dark Night (1981), featuring the late Kim Youngae.
