The screen debut of UHM Jeong-hwa, who has enjoyed fame as one of the top singers over the past 20 years, surprisingly came quite a long time ago. She made her debut in her early 20s by starring in <We Must Go to Apgujung-Dong on Windy Days> by the poet and movie director YOO Ha based on his poetry collection of the same title. After this screen debut, she concentrated on her singing career, rising to the status of a dancing queen on the back of her sexy charisma as a pop icon. She returned to the big screen in the early 2000s through another film by [YOO Ha], <Marriage Is a Crazy Thing>, in a role as an audacious young woman who believes love and marriage are two different things, which brought her renewed recognition as an actress. Afterwards she stacked up an impressive filmography to compensate for the long lull in her acting career. She has mainly played strong-minded career woman. She displayed impassioned performances as a hip urbanite in <Singles> and <Mr. Handy>, as a young career mother fatigued by duties at work and home in <For Horowitz> and <Haeundae>, a big-shot art dealer in <Insadong Scandal>, and as a best-selling author in <Bestseller>. Interestingly, all her movie roles have been as sophisticated professional women. Having played a handful of mother characters on TV, she starred in 2011 as a terminally-ill mother who lives with her young son in <Mama>, eliciting many tears from spectators in the process. Her next performance was in the smash hit <Dancing Queen>, in which she played a housewife trying to fulfill her dreams of younger days of becoming a singer and prompting a conflict with her husband, played by HWANG Jung-min who is running for mayor. UHM switched gears for her next role a year later, playing the mother of missing child in the thriller <Montage>. In 2014, she starred alongside MOON So-ri and CHO Min-soo in the Sex and the City-style women’s film <Venus Talk>. The next year, UHM was seen alongside SONG Seung-heon in <Wonderful Nightmare>, as an attorney who dies due to a mistake in heaven. She will be able to return to her life in one month, but first she must live as an ordinary housewife.
