Latest Films from Ryoo Seungwan and Lee Joonik Score 8 Nods a Piece
The Buil Film Awards, one of the top Korean film industry prize events, has announced this year’s nominees ahead of its ceremony next month. Leading the pack with eight nominations apiece, out of a possible 13 categories, are Lee Joonik’s The Book of Fish and Ryoo Seungwan’s Escape from Mogadishu.
Both films were nominated for Best Film, along with Yoon Danbi’s Moving On (2019), Hong Euijeong’s Voice of Silence (2020), and Hong Sangsoo’s Introduction.
Lee Joonik, Ryoo Seungwan, Yoon Danbi and Hong Euijeong were also nominated for Best Director, along with Lee Seungwon for Three Sisters (2020).
This year’s Best Actress category field comprises Moon Sori (Three Sisters), Go Ahsung (SAMJIN COMPANY ENGLISH CLASS, 2020), Jun Jongseo (The Call, 2020), Lim Sunae (An Old Lady, 2019), and Jeon Yeobeen (Night in Paradise).
The Best Actor field includes Yoo Ahin (Voice of Silence), Kim Yunseok (Escape from Mogadishu), Um Taegoo (Night in Paradise), and both Sul Kyunggu and Byun Yohan of The Book of Fish.
This year is the first time the Buil nominations have included streaming-only films, such as the Netflix titles The Call and Night in Paradise.
The Buil Film Awards were first established in 1958, and these days they take place in Busan every year, during the first weekend of the Busan International Film Festival. This year’s ceremony will take place in the BEXCO Auditorium in Centum City on October 7.
