PARASITE Sweeps 6 Prizes at Buil Film Awards

BONG Joon-ho’s Latest Takes Home Best Film among 6 Prizes in Busan


BONG Joon-ho’s critically-acclaimed smash PARASITE swept up six prizes at this year’s Buil Film Awards, held in conjunction with the Busan International Film Festival, taking home top honors in six categories.

The Palme d’Or winner picked up prizes for Best Film, Best Supporting Actress (LEE Jung-eun), Best Supporting Actor (PARK Myeong-hoon), Best Screenplay (BONG Joon-ho, HAN Ji-won), Best Cinematography (HONG Kyeong-pyo) and Best Score (JUNG Jae-il).

Meanwhile, the Best Director award went to KIM Tae-gyun for last year’s serial killer thriller Dark Figure of Crime, Best Actor was taken by KI Joo-bong for his leading role in Hong Sangsoo’s Hotel by the River, a performance which previously earned him the Best Actor prize at the Locarno International Film Festival in 2018, while JEON Do-yeon earned the Best Actress award for the Sewol-themed family drama Birthday. Best Art Direction was picked up by PARK Il-hyeon for the tap dance period drama Swing Kids (2018).

This year’s Best New Director prize went to KIM Ui-seok for After My Death (2018), which earned the New Currents Award at the Busan International Film Festival two years ago. After My Death star JEON Yeo-been picked up Best New Actress while Best New Actor went to SUNG Yu-bin of Last Child (2018), another New Currents competitor at BIFF in 2017.

Finally the Popular Star Awards this year went to DOH Kyung-soo of Swing Kids (2018) and Yoon-a of this summer’s disaster-comedy hit EXIT.
