JUNG Jae-il, born in 1982, is a musician, singer, songwriter and music producer. Having displayed a certain talent for music ever since his younger days, he was sent by his mother to a jazz music school, where he met guitarist HAN Sang-won. Impressed by the guitar play of such a young teenager, HAN invited him to join his band. Through the connections he made on the music scene, JUNG came to participate in the recording sessions for the OST of JANG Sun-woo’s <Timeless, Bottomless> (1997) and Hong Sang-soo’s <The Power of Kangwon Province> (1998). He played bass in the alternative rock band GIGS with HAN and four other musicians. Although the band only released two albums, one in 1999 and the second one in 2000, they earned a lot of popular and critical success before they split. In 2003, he was credited for the title song of the CG animation film <Wonderful Days> (2003). In 2004, JUNG became the first Rookie of the Year winner of the newly created Korean Music Awards for his debut solo album. He would later take home another Korean Music Award, but that time for the Best Crossover Album for his Korean traditional music album 'Bari Abandoned' created in collaboration with HAN Seung-seok. Through his work as a producer for 70s star singer KIM Min-ki, he was hired as a music director of the theater company Hakjeon. He earned his first recognition as a stage musical director from The Musical Awards for the 2013 Korean production of <Jesus Christ Superstar>. After having composed his first original score for a movie in the melodrama <Life is Cool> (2007), he added <Marine Boy> (2009) and <Haemoo> (2014) to his credits. Starting from 2017, JUNG has been working with PARK Hyo-shin, one of the most renowned vocalists in Korea, and they created a studio album <Beautiful Tomorrow> and a musical film of the same name. Famed director BONG Joon-ho entrusted him with the soundtrack of his Netflix Original film <Okja> (2018), and called upon him again for the Palme-d’Or winner <PARASITE> (2019). BONG later said of him that he is the most subtle person on earth.
