LEE Joon-ik’s hit period film The Throne, starring SONG Kang-ho and YOO Ah-in, came up tops at the 35th Korean Association of Film Critics Awards (KAFC), where it picked up the Best Film prize, in addition to honors for Best Screenplay (CHO Chul-hyun, O Seung-hyeon, LEE Song-won) and Best Music (BANG Jun-seok).

Among other big prize winners were the smash hit Veteran, which earned RYOO Seung-wan the Best Director award, HONG Sang-soo’s Right Now, Wrong Then, which netted star JUNG Jae-young the Best Actor accolade, following his win for the same prize in the Locarno International Film Festival in August, and Coin Locker Girl, for which KIM Hye-soo earned the Best Actress honor.

For new talent, indie film Set Me Free picked up the Best New Director prize for KIM Tae-yong and Best New Actor for CHOI Woo-shik, while SHIN Su-won’s Madonna brought home Best New Actress for KWON So-hyun.

CHOI Dong-hoon’s Assassination picked up two prizes, for Best Cinematography (KIM Wu-hyeong) and the Technical Award for RYU Seong-hee. This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award went to film director JUNG Jin-woo (the subject of a retrospective at the Busan International Film Festival last year), and AHN Sung-ki was given a Special Appreciation Plaque while JANG Kun-jae earned the Korean International Critics Award for A Midsummer's Fantasia.

Meanwhile, the top ten films of the year were The Unfair, Cart, Coin Locker Girl, The Shameless, Right Now, Wrong Then, Revivre, Ode to My Father, Assassination, Veteran and The Throne.
