Born in 1959, CHO Chul-hyun studied English literature. His many attempts to pass the entry exam of a broadcasting company having been to no avail, he started his career in 1987 at a film distribution company. He joined Open Cinema four years later as a planning supervisor, before he was invited by LEE Joon-ik to serve as a director at his newly founded film company Cineworld Entertainment. In this capacity, he imported and distributed foreign movies and developed <The Anarchist> and <Hi, Dharma> among many. After establishing the independent production company Tiger Pictures in 2003, he produced <Hi, Dharma 2 - Showdown in Seoul> (2004) and <The Happy Life> (2007), which were box office hits. He kept working with LEE and their partnership challenged the expectations of movie viewers by making joyful and touching films on original subjects. CHO produced several movies with LEE in the role of director, such as <Once Upon a Time in a Battlefield> (2003), <Sunny> (2008), <Blades of Blood> (2009) and <Battlefield Heroes> (2010), often participating in the screenplays as well thanks to his experience in translating foreign movies. His low-budget production, <Possessed> (2009) and <Foxy Festival> (2010), also drew attention with their fresh ideas. He has most recently worked on the script of historical drama <The Throne> (2014) and the initial concept of <Mood of the Day> (2015).
