Acclaimed Korean Horror Continues Hot Festival Run
The Korean horror-thriller Midnight has picked up another award on the festival circuit. The acclaimed film earned the Best Feature Award from Grimmfest in Manchester in the UK.
From debut filmmaker Kwon Ohseung, the film stars Jin Kijoo of Little Forest (2018) as a young hearing-impaired woman who witnesses an attempted murder one evening when returning from work. She tries to help the victim but only manages to make herself the killer’s new target, kicking off a dangerous cat-and-mouse game through the alleys of Seoul.
Jin received a special mention in the Best Actress category at Grimmfest. Playing the twisted serial killer is Wi Hajun, who recently appeared as the detective in the main cast of the Netflix hit Squid Game.
Midnight was released in Korea in late June both in theaters and as an exclusive feature on TVING, the streaming platform of CJ ENM. The film was quickly embraced by genre film festival circuits around the world. It picked up the Silver Audience Award for Best Asian Feature at the Fantasia International Film Festival and also screened at Fantastic Fest and the New York Asian Film Festival, among others.
UK viewers will have more opportunities to view the chiller when the Blu-ray label Eureka Entertainment releases the title on home media next year.
