CJ E&M Title Will Be Released Late 2014
The new film Gukje Market (working title), by director YOON Je-Kyun, who previously made the disaster blockbuster Haeundae (2009) and also produced Quick (2011), Sector 7 (2011) and The Spy: Undercover Operation (2013), has completed principal photography.
Gukje Market, which tells the story of a man and his family who struggle in Korea’s modern history, started shooting in Prague, Czech Republic on August 14th of last year and finally wrapped up its filming in Thailand on December 25th.
The main cast members include actor HWANG Jung-min, known for his impressive performances in recent movies The Unjust (2010) and New World (2013), actress KIM Yun-jin who actively works both in Korea (Harmony [2010]) and Hollywood TV Series Lost), and OH Dal-su of Oldboy (2003), The Thieves (2012) and The Attorney (2013). The movie will portray a phase of modern Korean history through a character named Duk-su (HWANG Jung-min) who lives and works in the thick of Busan’s Gukje Market, taking care of his family as he fills in for his father, separated due to the Korean War, along with Duk-su’s wife Young-ja (KIM Yun-jin) and his friend Dal-gu (OH Dal-su).
Gukje Market, with a total budget of KRW 14 billion (USD 13.1 million), was shot on multiple locations in Korea, Czech Republic and Thailand. In addition, global teams cooperated for the production as the Swedish special make-up artists of Skyfall (2012) joined during shooting while a total of four VFX teams from Korea and Japan are set to work on the film’s post-production.
The upcoming film Gukje Market, financed and to be distributed by CJ Entertainment, will be released later this year.
