DOHEEYA Begins Production in South Jeolla Province
Doheeya, a new film that is due to go before cameras on September 8th, is set to star actresses BAE Doo-na and KIM Sae-ron, while director LEE Chang-dong is aboard as a producer. Debut director JUNG Joo-ri will take the reigns.
BAE, long known to Korean cinema fans for her roles in films such as Barking Dogs Never Bite (2000), Take Care of My Cat (2001), Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002) and The Host (2006), made the jump to the international scene in last year’s Cloud Atlas. She also recently filmed a part for the Wachowski Siblings’ next film Jupiter Ascending. Doheeya will be her first role in Korea since she teamed up with HA Ji-won for As One, the Korean table tennis drama. She will be joined by KIM Sae-ron, the teenage star who shot to stardom when she starred alongside WON Bin in The Man From Nowhere (2010).
In the film, a woman suffers a sexual identity crisis and falls in love with someone who isn’t age appropriate. BAE will play the head of a police substation while KIM will perform as a girl who is subject to domestic violence. Doheeya will begin production in Suncheon in South Jeolla province on September 8th.
