- If the is one word that best describer her, it would be an “eccentric.” She is offbeat. She refuses to be part of the mainstream. Her roles in the films <Barking Dogs Never Bite> and <Take Care of My Cat> emphasized her image as an eccentric youth. She defies orders of the grown-ups but it does not mean that she pickets outside. She is just indifferent to the grown-up’s world. This is how her signature image has evolved. BAE Doo-na is an actress who is more reliant on her uniqueness than pretty face. She is the “auteur’s muse.” In <Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance> directed by [PARK Chan-wook], she plays a wacky girl prompting Ryu, her boyfriend([SHIN Ha-kyun]), to kidnap a child. She tore across the screen as an Olympic competent archer desperately fighting against the monster in [BONG Joon-ho]’s film, <The Host>, adding “action star” to her professional repertoire. The film is set around the Han River running across Seoul. Her acting career goes beyond the border. She has taken on a number of indie projects in Japan such as <Linda Linda Linda>, a story of a Japanese high school band, and <Air Doll>, a story about a life size “air doll” suddenly developing human’s feelings. After working on a couple of TV dramas, BAE teamed up with HA Ji-won for the ping-pong drama <As One> in 2012, after which she took on her first Hollywood part in the Wachowski siblings’ sci-fi opus <Cloud Atlas> in which she played multiple roles. In 2014, BAE took on a leading role in the indie <A Girl at My Door>, which was screened at Cannes and for which she received much acclaim. Next for her was another pair of collaborations with the Wachowskis, their space opera <Jupiter Ascending> and their TV series <Sense8>, which partly shot in Korea, both released in 2015.
