PARASITE Leads Asian Film Awards with 10 Nominations

19 Nominations for 9 Korean Films at 14th AFAs
The Asian Film Awards are returning for their 14th edition this year, which will take place for the first time in Busan, South Korea, after the previous 13 editions took place in either Hong Kong or Macao. Leading the nominations scorecard is BONG Joon-ho’s global smash PARASITE (2019), which was recognized in ten categories. A total of nine films from Korea amassed 19 nominations across the event’s 16 categories.
PARASITE (2019) scored nominations in the main categories, such as Best Film, Best Director (BONG Joon-ho) and Best Screenplay (BONG Joon-ho and HAN Jin-won), the acting categories for Best Supporting Actor (CHOI Woo-shik) and Best Supporting Actress (LEE Jung-eun), as well as several technical nominations for Best Editing (YANG Jin-mo), Best Original Music (JUNG Jae-il), Best Production Design (LEE Ha-jun), Best Sound (CHOI Tae-young) and Best Visual Effects (HONG Jeong-ho).
Elsewhere, former Best Actor winner LEE Byung-hun scored another nomination in the category for the The Man Standing Next, JUNG Yu-mi secured a nod for Best Actress for KIM JI-YOUNG, BORN 1982 (2019), LEE Sang-geun landed in the Best New Director list with EXIT (2019) and KIM Hye-jun of Another Child (2019) was nominated for Best Newcomer.
In technical categories, Time to Hunt’s LIM Won-geun landed in the Best Cinematography category, KIM Tae-seong was listed in Best Original Music for SVAHA : THE SIXTH FINGER (2019), CHO Sang-gyeong of Forbidden Dream (2019) was nominated for Best Costume Design and ASHFALL (2019) received two nominations, one for Best Visual Effects (JIN Jong-hyun) and another for Best Sound (also by PARASITE (2019)’s CHOI Tae-young).
This year’s Asian Film Awards will be streamed online on October 28.
