Kim Hyejun, born in 1995, majored in theater and film at Hanyang University. She first appeared in commercials in 2014 and was still studying theater and film at Hanyang University when she debuted in the lesbian romance web series <Lily Fever> (2015). With strong determination, she auditioned for as many films and shows as possible in order to gain experience. Much to her surprise, one day in 2016 she passed one such audition for <Saturday Night Live Korea>, although she had never considered herself to have any talent for comedy. As part of regular cast, she made her name participating in several skits that proved to be popular and left the show at the end of the season in June. After starring in several short movies such as <A Transfer Student> (2016) and appearing as support in a few TV series, her first role in a feature film came in <After Spring> (2017). In 2018, Kim appeared alongside Bae Doona in the Netflix Original series <Kingdom> (2018), playing a teenage queen who is expecting a son and will stop at nothing to put him on the throne. In late 2018, she reunited with Bae in the TV series <Matrimonial Chaos>, playing her younger sister. Although Kim’s delivery in <Kingdom> was deemed incompatible with the much-codified period piece genre by some viewers, she was unanimously praised just a few months later for her performance as one of the leads in <Another Child>, the directorial debut of Kim Yunseok. The actor-turned-director said of her, “I don’t think she is the type of actress to be influenced by trends. That’s why I believe that with time her sincerity will only shine brighter”. Later that year, she was awarded with the Blue Dragon for Best New Actress. When she came back for a second season of <Kingdom>, her performance this time won over many of her detractors. After starring in the mystery TV series <Chip In> in 2020, she was back on the big screen as an unlucky guest of a housewarming party gone wrong in <Sinkhole> (2021).
