Born in 1986, HAN Jin-won majored in film studies at Yongin University in 2005. After graduation, he joined the team of property assistants for the family comedy <South Bound> (2013), and later served in the production department of <Dad for Rent> (2014), <Daughter> (2014), <Granny’s Got Talent> (2015), <Enemies In-Law> (2015) and <Pandora> (2016). When he worked as a second assistant director for BONG Joon-ho’s <Okja>, the director took notice of him and then asked him to help him with the script he had been working on since 2013. The script was for <PARASITE> (2019). Although the script was significantly altered by BONG himself once he found the idea for the twist, HAN’s contribution was crucial, having made a lot of research during three months, interviewing chauffeurs and housekeepers and collecting visual references for the locations to provide the story with the right amount of authenticity. Several of the most memorable lines come from HAN, such as when Ki-taek declares that he knows “anything below the 38th parallel”. Co-credited for the scenario, HAN won the Oscar, the BAFTA Award and the WGA Award for Best Original Screenplay.
