LIM Yoon-a, HAN Ji-min, KANG Ha-neul and More Cast in KWAK Jae-yong’s Latest 

My Sassy Girl (2001) filmmaker KWAK Jae-yong is returning to the director’s chair for the ensemble romantic comedy Happy New Year (literal title) from CJ Entertainment, which has assembled a dizzying cast of popular Korean actors.

Joining the veteran filmmaker on set will be LIM Yoon-a, HAN Ji-min, KANG Ha-neul, LEE Dong-wook, KIM Young-kwang, WON Jin-ah, SEO Kang-joon and LEE Kwang-soo. Rounding out the 15 leading roles announced in the project are JUNG Jin-young, LEE Hye-young, LEE Jin-wook, KO Sung-hee, LEE Kyu-hyung, CHO Jun-young, and WON Jin-a. 

The actors will all play characters whose stories intersect in the ‘M Rose’ hotel around the new year. HAN Ji-min will play the hotel manager, while LEE Dong-wook will incarnate the owner. LIM Yoon-a and WON Jin-a play a hotelier and hotel maid, respectively, while KIM Young-kwang is a radio producer, SEO Kang-joon a singer-songwriter and LEE Kwang-soo will play an entertainment agency manager.

Director KWAK has been active as a filmmaker since the late 1980s, and became one of the industry’s top names when he made a string of romantic hits, starting with the iconic film My Sassy Girl and continuing with The Classic (2003) and Windstruck (2004).

Happy New Year is being produced by Hive Media Corporation, the company behind Inside Men (2015) and The Man Standing Next and Deliver Us from Evil, the two most successful Korean films of last year. The film will debut both in theaters and on the streaming service TVING next year, just like the sci-fi action-drama SEOBOK did earlier this month.
