LEE Seok-hoon to Direct Spy Action-Comedy which Adds Daniel HENNEY, JIN Seon-kyu
HYUN Bin, YOO Hae-jin and IM Yoon-a have all signed on to reunite in Confidential Assignment 2: International (translated title), the sequel to the hit 2017 action-comedy. Joining them in the franchise will be Daniel HENNEY and JIN Seon-kyu. Assuming the director’s role for this second outing is The Pirates (2014) helmer LEE Seok-hoon.
The sequel will find Rim Chul-ryung (HYUN Bin) returning to South Korea to pursue a dangerous criminal organization. Kang Jin-tae (YOO Hae-jin) will once again lend him a hand when he volunteers to work alongside the North Korean agent, partly in order to reclaim his spot on his investigation team back in South Korea, after a mistake landed him in the cybercrime department.
Daniel HENNEY is on board to play the FBI detective Jack, who is also on the trail of the organization, while JIN Seon-kyu will play the criminal group’s leader Jang Myung-joon. IM Yoon-a returns as Jin-tae’s sister Park Min-young, who has a crush on Chul-ryun.
The first Confidential Assignment, from director KIM Sung-hoon, became the biggest hit of the Lunar New Year holiday in 2017, selling close to eight million tickets. The film was distributed by CJ Entertainment and produced by JK Film, known for the blockbusters Haeundae (2009) and Ode to My Father (2014). Both companies are returning for the sequel, which is expected to go into production in February.
Director LEE Seok-hoon previously scored a hit with The Pirates, which brought in over eight million viewers in 2014, and found success again at the end of the following year, when his mountaineering drama The Himalayas (2015), another JK Film production, climbed well over seven million admissions.
