Yoon-a Nabs Next Generation Award in Macau

Korean film talent came away with several awards at this year’s 12th Asian Film Awards, which took place at the Venetian Hotel in Macau. Four Korean film professionals picked up prizes from a total of 17 nominations for Korean talent in total.

Girls’ Generation member Yoon-a, who last year appeared in the hit North Korean spy action-comedy Confidential Assignment (2017), walked away with this year’s Next Generation Award. She was also on hand to present an award.

Korean actor YANG Ik-june, known for writing and directing the acclaimed indie gangster drama Breathless (2009), earned the Best Supporting Actor award for his part in the Japanese boxing drama Wilderness (2017).

KIM Jee-yong was awarded the Best Cinematography Award for his work on HWANG Dong-hyuk’s period siege drama The Fortress (2017). It was KIM’s second consecutive nomination, following his work on KIM Jee-woon’s The Age of Shadows (2016), which was nominated last year.

Another Korean technical award winner was SHIN Min-kyung, who picked up the Best Editing prize for her work on HAN Jae-rim’s prosecutor saga The King (2017).

Also on stage to present awards this year were JANG Joon-hwan, director of 1987: When the Day Comes (2017), and Pieta (2012) lead actor LEE Jung-jin, who was one of the student ambassadors for the Asian Film Awards Academy this year.
