LEE Sang-woo Returns to Austin
Going into its 11th year, Fantastic Fest may field a larger-than-usual group from Korea this year, as two Korean films have already been announced as part of the festival’s first wave. Those are
HONG Won-chan’s horror-thriller
Office and
LEE Sang-woo’s gritty youth drama
Speed.
Following its debut at the Cannes Film Festival this year as a midnight screening,
Office recently screened at the Fantasia International Film Festival and will be released on domestic screens towards the end of the month. The workplace murder mystery chiller stars
KO Asung,
PARK Sung-woong and
BAE Sung-woo.
Speed will have its North American premiere in Austin, following its world debut at the
Jeonju International Film Festival in April. The ninth film from the prolific LEE Sang-woo,
Speed will see the indie auteur return to Texas just one year after his feature
I am Trash had its world premiere there.
With two more waves still to be announced, more Korean films are anticipated for Fantastic Fest this year, which will close with Bone Tomahawk, starring special guest Kurt Russell. The festival, which takes place at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas, will this year run from September 24th to October 1st.
