Born in 1972, BAE Sung-woo’s first steps as a performer were made on the musical stage in the late 1990s. Following some work on the stage, TV and in short films, BAE’s first big screen credit came in 2008, when he appeared in LEE Kyoung-mi’s critically-acclaimed, and PARK Chan-wook-produced, comedy-drama <Crush and Blush>. Two years later he appeared in JANG Cheol-soo’s searing island drama <Bedevilled> and it wasn’t long before BAE established himself as a major supporting player. With a knack for playing smarmy or sleazy characters and a gift for comedic timing, he has been called on to play a variety of roles. Following the indie <Azooma> and <Juvenile Offender> in 2012, BAE was called on to appear in seven films in 2013, including a memorable turn as a slimy embassy worker in BANG Eun-jin’s <Way Back Home> with JEON Do-yeon. The following year, he appeared in a staggering nine films, including as a deranged henchman in <Monster>, a gang member in <Big Match>, a loan shark in <My Dictator> and a not-so-nobleman in the period drama <The Royal Tailor>. He was no less busy in 2015, appearing in the political fixer thriller <Inside Men> with LEE Byung-hun, ROH Deok’s sophomore effort <Journalist>, and the murder mystery <Office>, which went to the Cannes Film Festival as a midnight screening. In 2016, he starred alongside JUNG Woo-sung and ZO In-sung in the crime drama <The King>, before taking on another prominent role in the heist film <The Swindlers>(2017). 2019 saw him becoming a bankable actor as he starred in the successful occult horror <Metamorphosis>(2019) as well as the thriller <BEASTS CLAWING AT STRAWS>(2019).
