Born in 1985, HAN Jun-hee kicked off his directing career with the short <To Bite a Cigarette> in 2005. It didn’t take him long to enter the mainstream industry as he became involved in the production support team for 2006’s LEE Byung-hun romance film <Once a Summer>. Quickly moving up the ranks he found himself in the assistant director position for 2008’s comedy <Ba:Bo> with CHA Tae-hyun and HA Ji-won. His next major credit arose in 2013, when he debuted as a screenwriter on the supernatural procedural thriller <The Gifted Hands>. That same year he also worked in the production department for JANG Joon-hwan’s long-awaited return <Hwayi: A Monster Boy>.

At the age of 30, HAN finally made his directorial debut on the gangster thriller <Coin Locker Girl>, which he also wrote. The female-led crime tale, which starred KIM Hye-soo and KIM Go-eun, proved an auspicious start as it was featured in the Critics’ Week lineup of the Cannes Film Festival. The film was a modest hit in Korea, garnering 1.47 million viewers, and traveled all around the world, screening at the Melbourne, Sitges and Giffoni Film Festivals, among others. That year, HAN was awarded the Best New Director Prize at the Blue Dragon Film Awards.
