Born in 1976, JEON Hye-jin majored in film with the aim to make movies, but didn’t really enjoy the classes. It is by chance that she made her big screen debut, and in a position she would have never expected to take. One day, as she was visiting a café, she met by chance director YEO Kyun-dong who then suggested that she audition for his next movie. Determined to take her chance, she went there and was eventually chosen to star in the comedy <Film-Making> (1997), quite ironically as a would-be actress. The same year, she also won the South Gyeongsang provincial heat for Miss Korea. Since the screenwriter of <Film-Making> kept insisting that she should try playing on stage, she joined the theatre company Trans-Dimensional Stageship. In 1999, she was named Best New Actress by the National Theater Association of Korea for her part in the play <Unification Express>. It is only a few year laters, while shooting the comedy <Jungle Juice> (2002), that she thought of pursuing a screen actor career. In 2004, she drew the attention of many a viewer while playing the twin sister of the male lead in TV series <I’m Sorry, I Love You>, and joined the following year the ensemble cast of romantic comedy <All For Love> (2005). Her lead role in hit action thriller <The Terror, LIVE> (2013) made her better known of the public, a reputation further enhanced by her portrayal of the King’s consort in LEE Joon-ik’s historical drama <The Throne> (2014) and the subsequent supporting-acting honors she received at the Blue Dragon Awards and the Korean Film Producers Association Awards. She made another strong impression in 2017 with stellar performances in two critically-acclaimed movies, first in crime action <The Merciless> (2016), earning the title of Best Supporting Actress from the Korean Association of Film Critics, and later in the indie drama <The Poet and The Boy> (2017). She is married to actor LEE Sun-kyun.
