Born in 1976, Jeon Hyejin majored in film at Sangmyung University with the aim to make movies, but she didn’t really enjoy the classes. It was by chance that she debuted in the industry, and in front of the camera, a position she never expected to take: she met one day by chance Yeo Kyundong at a café, and the director suggested that she audition for his next movie. Determined to seize that chance, she eventually passed the audition and was cast in the comedy <Film-Making> (1997), in the quite ironic role of a would-be actress. As destiny would have it, the same year, she also won the South Gyeongsang provincial heat for Miss Korea. After the screenwriter of <Film-Making> convinced her to try playing on stage, she joined the theatre company Trans-Dimensional Stageship. In 1999, she was named Best New Actress by the National Theater Association of Korea for her part in the play <Unification Express>. It was only a few years later, while shooting the comedy <Jungle Juice> (2002), that she thought of pursuing a screen actor career in earnest. In 2004, she drew the attention of many a viewer while playing the twin sister of the male lead in the TV series <I’m Sorry, I Love You>. The following year, she joined the ensemble cast of the romantic comedy <All For Love> (2005). Her lead role in the hit action thriller <The Terror, LIVE> (2013) made her better known of the public, a fame further enhanced by her portrayal of the King’s consort in Lee Joonik’s hit historical drama <The Throne> (2014) – her only period drama so far – as well as the subsequent supporting-acting honors she received at the Blue Dragon Awards and the Korean Film Producers Association Awards. She made another strong impression in 2017 with stellar performances in two critically acclaimed movies, the crime action <The Merciless> (2016), earning the title of Best Supporting Actress from the Korean Association of Film Critics, and the indie drama <The Poet and The Boy> (2017). After she played a drug dealer in thriller <The Beast> (2019), she starred alongside Ha Jungwoo, Don Lee and Lee Byunghun in the disaster film <ASHFALL> as the initiator of a special mission to prevent a cataclysmic eruption of Baekdu Mountain. In 2022, she could be seen in Lee Jungjae’s directorial feature <HUNT> (2022). She is married to actor Lee Sunkyun
