Born in 1971, HONG Ji-young first majored in philosophy before studying film production at the Hankyoreh Cultural Center. She pursued her studies at the Korean Academy of Film Arts, from which she graduated in 1999, and joined soon after the film crew of <Interview> (2000). It wasn’t until 2008 that her career really took off when she contributed to the screenplay of queer comedy-drama <Antique> (2008). After making her feature debut the following year with the melodrama <The Naked Kitchen> (2009), which also explored relationships through good cooking, she directed segments in anthology films <Horror Stories> (2012) and <Modern Family> (2012). She returned to long feature films by directing the ensemble film <Marriage Blue> (2013), following different couples in the days leading up to their weddings. In 2016, picking up on the time-slip drama trend in films and series, she adapted Guillaume MUSSO’s novel “Seras-tu là ?” in <Will You Be There?>, starring KIM Yun-seok and BYUN Yo-han.
