Kim Hyanggi, born in 2000, could be first seen at the age of 3 in several commercials broadcast in 2003. She debuted in the movie <Hearty Paws> in 2006 and was instantly recognized for her cute appearance and acting skills, to the point where she was nicknamed “Korea’s Dakota Fanning”. In 2008, she displayed a good chemistry with her co-star Shin Goo in <Cherry Tomato>, overcoming a 64-year age difference. In 2010, she was cast as Song Yoon-Ah’s daughter in <Wedding Dress> (2010) and gave a very emotional performance. As a prominent child actress, her future looked very bright. Next for Kim were roles in the thriller <Troubleshooter> (2010), the melodrama <Late Blossom> (2011), the period action-comedy <The Grand Heist> (2012) and a role in the smash hit fantasy drama <A Werewolf Boy>, released in 2012. Two years later she appeared in Lee Han’s hard-hitting high school bullying drama <Thread of Lies> (2013) as a victim of bullying who took her own life, kicking off her sister’s search for truth. In 2015, Kim finally met another prominent actress of her generation she has often been compared to, Kim Saeron, in the comfort woman drama <Snowy Road> (2017). She was catapulted to international stardom in 2017 when she starred in the blockbuster fantasy <Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds> and its sequel, two of the most successful Korean films of all time. For this role, she won Best Supporting Actress at the Blue Dragon film Awards. She followed it up with performances praised for being more subdued in <Youngju> (2018) and <Innocent Witness> (2018), the latter of which saw Kim sharing top bill with star actor Jung Woosung and earned her Best Actress from the Korean Association of Film Critics. After appearing as an orphan who just reached adulthood and has to work as a nanny to make up for the cut off government aid in <I> (2021), Kim starred in <Hansan: Rising Dragon> (2021), the prequel in Kim Hanmin’s trilogy of films based on Admiral Yi Sunshin.
