Latest WHISPERING CORRIDORS Debuts in Top 5

Horror titles continued to drive the marketplace over the past weekend, claiming three of the top five spots at the box office, including two of the week’s new releases. Business rose up 25% to 770,000 admissions while local films remained in defensive mode, scoring just 7% of all sales.

Horror sequel A Quiet Place Part II kicked off its run in first place with 272,000 entries (USD 2.43 million) over the weekend, with 380,000 seats (USD 3.35 million) filled over its first five days. The film should have little trouble passing its predecessor, which sold 526,000 tickets in 2018.

Cruella was down just 20% in its fourth weekend, during which it welcomed 163,000 viewers (USD 1.44 million). The Disney hit has so far brought in 1.23 million spectators (USD 10.41 million) and is still performing well on the reservations chart.

Fellow Disney title Luca, the latest animation from Pixar, began its run with 116,000 sales (USD 930,000) over the weekend and has filled 133,000 seats (USD 1.08 million) since its Thursday debut.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It slowed 68% in its third weekend, which saw it score 51,000 sales (USD 470,000). To date, the horror threequel has attracted 721,000 viewers (USD 6.38 million).

Debuting in fifth place was WHISPERING CORRIDORS 6: THE HUMMING (2020), the latest installment in the long-running Korean horror franchise. The film by the first-time director Lee Miyoung clinched 49,000 sales (USD 396,000) over the weekend and a total of 66,000 entries (USD 519,000) in four days.

Looking to boost the box office further this coming weekend will be the Hollywood sequel Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard and the local action-thriller HARD HIT, while A Quiet Place Part II, Cruella should continue to draw in crowds.
