Kim Sungsoo to Helm Novel Adaptation
Park Jinyoung (aka Jinyoung), a member of the popular boyband GOT7, has signed on to appear in the upcoming thriller Christmas Carol (working title). Filling out the cast will be Kim Youngmin (Lucky Chansil, 2018), Heo Dongwon (Beasts Clawing at Straws, 2020), and rookie actor Kim Donghwi, who appeared in the second season of Stranger last year.
Handling the directors’ reigns will be Kim Sungsoo, the filmmaker behind Running Wild (2006), the Japanese-Korean co-production Genome Hazard (2014), and the first season of the occult drama series Save Me, which also featured Kim Youngmin.
Adapted from a book by Joo Wonkyu, Christmas Carol will follow the story of Joo Ilwoo (Jinyoung), a youth who enters a juvenile detention facility in order to avenge the death of his twin brother. Director Kim is adapting the script from Joo’s novel.
Singer Jinyoung has been on screens for almost a decade, but he made his serious acting debut as the lead of the indie drama Stray Goat, which debuted at the Jeonju International Film Festival in 2017.
Of late, Jinyoung has been gaining more traction as a major screen presence. He starred alongside Ji Sung in the dystopian drama The Devil Judge this summer and is currently featuring in the TVING romcom Yumi’s Cells alongside Kim Goeun. He will also appear in the upcoming Netflix spy thriller Yacha alongside Sul Kyunggu.
