ESCAPE FROM MOGADISHU Takes Best Film at Buil Film Awards

Yoo Ahin and Jun Jongseo Win Acting Honors at Busan-Held Awards 

 


 

Ryoo Seungwan’s hit action-thriller Escape from Mogadishu came away from the recent 30th Buil Film Awards with the Best Film Award. Ryoo’s film, which is the highest-grossing film at the Korean box office this year, topped the night with a total of six awards.

 

Escape from Mogadishu also picked up the Best Screenplay Award for Ryoo and co-writer Lee Gicheol, the Best Supporting Actor award for Huh Joonho, as well as a Popular Star Award for Zo Insung and several technical prizes for Best Cinematography (Choi Yeonghwan) and Best Music (Bang Junseok). 

 

This year’s Best Director Award went to Lee Joonik for his acclaimed black and white period drama The Book of Fish. The Best Actor Award went to Yoo Ahin for the black comedy Voice of Silence (2020), while Jun Jongseo earned the Best Actress accolade for the Netflix thriller The Call (2020). Kim Sunyoung took home the Best Supporting Actress Award for the indie drama Three Sisters (2020),

 

Voice of Silence picked up a second award, with Hong Euijeong winning the Best New Director prize. Ha Jun earned the Best New Actor award for Festival (2020), and Lee Yoomi was crowned Best New Actress for Young Adult Matters (2020).

 

This year’s Technical Award went to the Netflix SF-action film Space Sweepers, and a second Popular Star Award was bestowed on Esom for the workplace drama SAMJIN COMPANY ENGLISH CLASS (2020).
