  • KIM Hye-soo Leads IMF Crisis Drama

Upcoming IMF drama Sovereign Default has added Korean star YOO Ah-in and French actor Vincent Cassel to its cast, which already features KIM Hye-soo in the lead. The second film of Split director CHOI Kook-hee will kick off filming this month.

Taking place during the IMF Crisis of 1997 in the week leading up to the day that Korea was forced to declare bankruptcy and request emergency funds from the International Monetary Fun (IMF), the film features KIM as a senior financial analyst at a Korean bank, while YOO is a maverick investor who is betting against the country. In a supporting role, Cassel will play the head of IMF.

Recently on screens in the action drama A Special Lady, KIM Hye-soo is known for her roles in The Thieves (2012) and Coin Locker Girl (2015), while Veteran (2015) and The Throne (2015) star YOO Ah-in is currently shooting LEE Chang-dong’s new film Burning.

French star Cassel, known for dozens of European hits as well as Hollywood films such as Ocean’s Twelve and Black Swan, will appear in a Korean film for the first time. HU Joon-ho (The Merciless) and JO WOO-jin (The Fortress) have also joined the cast.

CJ Entertainment will release the film, which is being produced by Zip Cinema (Cold Eyes, 2013; The Priests, 2015; Master, 2016) and financed by the Spackman Entertainment Group, in late 2018.
