GANG Dong-won and YOO Ah-in Rumored to Star
During a special session with major Asian film directors at the
Busan International Film Festival,
LEE Chang-dong revealed that he is hoping to begin production on his new film next month. This would make it his first feature since
Poetry, the Best Screenplay Award winner at the Cannes Film Festival in 2010.
Director LEE mentioned that while the schedule isn’t entirely fixed he hopes to begin shooting
Burning in November. Though an official announcement hasn’t been made, it is rumored that stars
GANG Dong-won and
YOO Ah-in will feature in the film. The project will be a mystery-thriller about a woman whose life becomes caught between two different men, one who is affluent and the other who struggles to make a living.
After storming the international festival circuit with his films
A Peppermint Candy (2000) and
Oasis (2002), LEE took a break from the industry for a few years during which he served as the Minister of Culture in the Korean government. Following that he directed
Secret Sunshine, which earned
JEON Do-yeon the Best Actress Award at Cannes in 2007.
Actor GANG Dong-won, who is fresh off the hits
The Priests and
A Violent Prosecutor, has become increasingly busy, with his mystery title
Vanishing Time: A Boy Who Returned due out in November and then the thriller
Master coming out the following month. Meanwhile, YOO Ah-in had a huge 2015, starring in
Veteran and
The Throne.
Burning will be released at some point in 2017.
