Korean Documentary to Screen at Sydney Film Festival
A touching Korean documentary about two elderly lovebirds will be going to the Sydney Film Festival in June. The festival, which will be held from June 3rd until the 14th, announced its early picks for the 62nd festival on April 1st.
My Love, Don’t Cross That River is a documentary that takes a look at the lives of two seniors who have been married for over 76 years, JO Byeong-man and KANG Kye-yeol. While showing their child-like feelings for each other, the film turns into a tearjerker as the couple face the last moments of their wedded life. The film performed successfully at the domestic box office due to word of mouth and ended up becoming the most successful Korean independent film of all time with over four million admissions. It currently stands on top place on the all time alternative box office chart.
In previous years at Sydney,
Bong Joon-ho’s
Snowpiercer was invited in 2014, while in 2013 four Korean films were programmed.
The full programming for the Sydney Film Festival will be announced on May 6th.
