Live Action Film from YEON Sang-ho
YEON Sang-ho, who brought a new perspective to animation in the Korean film industry with
King of Pigs (2011) and
The Fake (2013), is returning with a live action film.
Busan Bound can be seen as a sequel to YEON’s upcoming project
Seoul Station, which is due to be released this year.
Seoul Station is about an unknown virus that spreads through Korea’s most crowded hub, Seoul Station, while
Busan Bound then tells the story of the people escaping Seoul Station to Busan on Korea’s high-speed KTX train.
Confirmed for casting is
GONG Yoo who recently starred in hit blockbuster
The Suspect (2013). In
Busan Bound, GONG plays a fund manager and also a single father who is raising a young girl. Tough guy
MA Dong-seok, also known as Don LEE, is cast along with
JUNG Yu-mi of
Our Sunhi (2012) as husband and wife. Another passenger on the train is
CHOI Woo-shik. CHOI starred in
Secretly Greatly (2013) and through his admirable performance as the lead of indie film
Set Me Free he is getting more attention as a rising star. CHOI will play a baseball player named Young-gook, while
AN So-hui will follow CHOI as a high school girl and a fan of the sportsman. Also, child actress
KIM Su-an, who starred
Sprout (2013), a Crystal Bear winner from Berlin, is cast as the daughter of GONG’s character.
This big budget live action film is the first non-animation title directed by YEON. The film will start shooting this April.
