The sophomore film from
LEE Jong-pil (
Born to Sing, 2013),
The Hymn is based on the story of SHIN Jae-hyo (RYOO), a pansori teacher who taught the gifted Chae-sun (BAE). A powerful man (played by
KIM Nam-gil) seeks out Chae-sun and makes her his concubine, and as SHIN realizes his love for her, he writes the song Dorihwaga (the Korean title of the film).
The directorial debut of
The Pirates scribe CHEON Seong-il,
Western Front takes place at the tail end of the Korean war and tells the story of South and North Korean soldiers who must cooperate in order to survive. The film also stars
LEE Gyoung-young.
CJ Entertainment are handling
The Hymn and
Lotte Entertainment will distribute
Western Front. While no release dates have been fixed, both may be ready in time for a summer release.
