Haemoo, which is produced by Snowpiercer director Bong Joon Ho and stars KIM Yun-seok and PARK Yoo-chun, is set to open domestically in August. The movie’s distributor NEW released the first teaser posters and announced the film’s release on May 28th. The film was reported to have pre-sold to five countries including Japan, France, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore at the Cannes Film Market earlier this month.

During the market, a ten-minute promotional video was shown. Two promotional screenings held for buyers were completely booked, and the film is known to have sold at considerably higher prices than normal Korean films.

A representative of France‘s Wild Side said, “Haemoo’s impact is ten times stronger than what I felt when I read the scenario. Bong Joon Ho, who is showcasing his first movie as a producer, seems to continue his research into the inner human psyche.“ After watching the promotional video, an official from Japan’s Twin stated, “I was very excited to watch the video as I am very excited for the project. I can‘t wait since it is the debut film of SHIM Sung-bo as well as Korean wave star PARK Yoo-chun.”

Haemoo is directed by SHIM Sung-bo, who worked as scriptwriter on Memories of Murder (2003). It is a story about six fishers who are dragged into uncontrollable situations when they decide to accept illegal stowaways.
