Korean Remake of French Thriller Stars RYU Seung-ryong
From the floor of the European Film Market (EFM), which is taking place alongside the 64th Berlinale, comes news that French production company and distributor Gaumont has teamed up with CJ Entertainment for the global release of its Spring release The Target. Starring RYU Seung-ryong, the film is a remake of the 2010 French thriller Point Blank from director Fred Cavayé.
In The Target, Yeo-hoon, once a skilled mercenary, has reformed and his leading a normal life. That is, until he winds up framed for the death of a prominent CEO. He escapes, takes a bullet and winds up in a hospital bed. A worker in the hospital helps him to escape his pursuers when his wife his kidnapped. Together, they embark on a 36-hour chase.
Leafing the cast is RYU Seung-ryong, a former supporting actor who rose to leading man following his popular turns in All About My Wife (2012), Masquerade (2012) and more. He was also the star of last year’s most successful film Miracle in Cell No. 7. Featuring alongside him is TV star LEE Jin-wook. The Target is the second feature length film of Death Bell (2008) director Chang.
CJ will handle the film’s release in Asian territories while Gaumont will oversee The Target’s rollout in North America and Europe. The Korean remake is expected to be released domestically in May.
