LEESONG Hee-il Returns to Germany
Just one year after screening his film White Night (2012) in the Berlin International Film Festival’s Panorama section, director LEESONG Hee-il is returning to the German fest’s same program with his latest film Night Flight. LEESONG’s latest work is described by the festival as a “poignantly unsettling duel between two schoolmates in a society deeply disturbed by the pressure to succeed.”
Well known for his sophisticated queer indie dramas, Night Flight is LEESONG’s fourth film and also marks his third invitation to Berlinale’s Panorama lineup, following his feature debut No Regret in 2006 and White Night last year, which debuted at the Jeonju International Film Festival in 2012. White Night made its way all across the world either on its own or packaged with the director's mid-length features Going South (2012) and Suddenly Last Summer Going South (2012) under the title One Night and Two Days. Night Flight will be having its world premiere in Berlin.
Last year’s Panorama section featured the Korean titles Behind the Camera (2012) from E J-yong, KIM Dong-ho’s Jury (2012), LEE Don-ku’s Fatal (2012) and LEESONG’s White Night. Night Flight joins previously announced Korean features LEE Yong-seung’s 10 Minutes, A Dream of Iron by Kelvin Kyun Ku Park and JUNG Yoon-suk’s Non Fiction Diary in Berlinale’s Forum section and the short Sprout from filmmaker YOON Ga-eun in the Generation Kplus lineup.
This year’s 64th Berlinale will take place from February 6th to 16th.
