YOO Yeon-seok Also Mulling Offer for THE INFORMANT
Following this year’s Boomerang Family and the currently in production Gyeongju, directed by ZHANG Lu, PARK Hae-il will next star in The Informant, which will be based on a true story. Forever the Moment (2008) director YIM Soon-rye will helm the film that may also feature rising star YOO Yeon-seok, who has been offered the co-starring role.
The plot of The Informant comes from the real life story of HWANG Woo-seok, a former professor of biotechnology at Seoul National University who gained international renown after fabricating reports that he had successfully carried out experiments cloning human embryonic stem cells. He was later found to be a fraud and dismissed from his position.
PARK, who will play the professor, is a veteran of the industry who recently impressed in the period action War of the Arrows, for which he won many awards, and Eungyo, in which he played an elderly writer. After scoring an early bit part in Oldboy (2003), up-and-comer YOO Yeon-seok has made a name for himself with roles in recent hits Architecture 101 and A Werewolf Boy.
Director YIM, who switches between commercial and independent fare, most recently made this year’s South Bound with KIM Yun-seok. Though casting is not yet finalized, shooting for The Informant is expected to begin early next year.
