  • Interested Mounts in Courtroom Drama THE COUNSEL
  • by TAE Sang-joon /  Nov 06, 2013
  • SONG Kang-ho Aiming for 3rd 2013 Hit

SONG Kang-ho’s latest film The Counsel (a Withus Film production), following his recent turns in The Face Reader and Snowpiercer, has been attracting considerable attention ahead of the film’s release since its trailer and still images were opened to the public recently.

Set in Busan during the early 1980s, The Counsel tells the story of high school-graduate attorney SONG Woo-suk (played by SONG Kang-ho) whose savvy business skills earn him considerable success as a specialist in tax affairs but then does a u-turn to devote his career to human rights issues after he defends a friend involved in a political case. SONG stars as the leading man and is accompanied by supporting roles played by OH Dal-soo, of The Thieves and Miracle in Cell No. 7, and KWAK Do-won of The Berlin File and Ghost Sweepers.

Part of the film’s appeal stems from the fact that SONG Woo-suk recalls the late President ROH Moon-hyun. However, the Withus Film’s head CHOI Jae-won states “The main character has been inspired by the late President ROH who carried a unique track record as a lawyer. However the film is not based on his life story.”

Others are curious to see whether SONG Kang-ho will be able to continue his streak of box office success following the successes Snowpiercer and The Face Reader, each earned nationwide tallies of 9.3 million and 9.1 million admissions, respectively. The directorial feature debut film of YANG Woo-suk, The Counsel will be released on December 19th.
