The first official event of the 5th DMZ Korean International Documentary Film Festival(DMZ Docs) was a meeting for the organizing committee held on May 27th. It was a meeting for members to share opinions and to find ways for success and development of the festival in its 5th year. The head of the organizing committee KIM Mun-su (governor of Gyeonggi-do), the festival director CHO Jae-hyun (actor, chairman of Gyeonggi Performing & Film Commission), experienced actor LEE Soon-jae, AHN Sung-ki (actor, festival director of the Asiana International Short Film Festival/AISFF), the honorary festival director of the Busan International Film Festival(BIFF) KIM Dong-ho, SON Suk (actress) and the chief director of Cineastes’ Council LEE Choon-yeon, attended the meeting.

The committee made the decision to hold events for the festival after the opening ceremony around Goyang to give the public better access to the festival. For that, they renewed the structure of the committee by letting LEE In-jae the mayor of Paju (previous festival holding city) continue his position as a vice chairman and appointing CHOI Seong the mayor of Goyang as another vice chairman of the organizing committee.

 

KIM Mun-su, the chairman of the organizing committee said, “DMZ Docs is a film festival with a strong purpose. I hope that as many audiences can enjoy it as possible.” CHOI Seong, the mayor of Goyang then said, “I will be the model of a hard working vice chairman. In commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the cease-fire, I will do my best to make the festival a chance to let the preciousness of peace on Korean peninsula known.” The 5th DMZ Docs will be held around Goyang, Gyeonggi-do between October 17th and 23rd.
