Jiseul, directed by O Muel, has beaten Breathless by YANG Ik-june. According to the statistics given by the Korean Film Council, on April 23rd, Jiseul screened at 59 theaters all over the nation and attracted 893 viewers, resulting in a total of 123,253 and 11th place at the box office. Jiseul became the most viewed independent dramatic film beating Breathless (122,918), which was on top for 4 years.
Jiseul won four awards, the NETPAC Award, the Citizen Critics’ Award, the DGK Award and the CGV Movie Collage Award at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) in 2012. It also won the World Cinema Dramatic Grand Jury Prize in the competition section of the Sundance Film Festival for the first time as a Korean film.
