French Asian Film Fest Gives Top Award to O Muel's
The Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinema, which got underway February 5th, held its closing ceremony last night during which it awarded its top award, the Cyclo d’Or, to two films:
O Muel’s Jeju Massacre film
Jiseul and Prasanna VITHANAGE’s
With You, Without You from Sri Lanka.
O Muel’s artistic black and white rendition of the little known atrocity that befell the island of Jeju in 1948 has been blazing a trail since it premiered at the
Busan International Film Festival last October, during which it won four awards. It quickly rose to international prominence by being invited to the Sundance Film Festival and International Film Festival Rotterdam, subsequently winning the Grand Jury Prize in the World Dramatic Competition of the former.
The last time a Korean film took home the top prize was in 2006 when the Chinese-South Korean co-production
Grain in Ear from filmmaker
Zhang LU competed in the international competition.
Jiseul opens on Jeju Island on March 7th and will expand across South Korea on March 21st.
