- KIM to Receive the Grand Prize at the ‘Beautiful Artist Awards’
KIM Ki-duk is going to receive the Grand prize at the 2nd ‘Beautiful Artist Awards’ hosted by the SHIN Young Kyun Arts & Culture Foundation, where AHN Sung-ki is the chairman. Besides him, the doyen actress CHOI Eun-hui and the heroine of Eungyo KIM Go-eun will be awarded as the Artist with Contribution and the New Artist respectively at the awarding ceremony held on December 10th.The ‘Beautiful Artist Awards’ finds film or play artists in 3 sections who made the most outstanding achievement each year and an artist who has made a life time contribution to the development of arts and culture to award them cash prizes totaling KRW 100 million (USD 92,000). The Grand prize winner receives KRW 40 million (USD 36,800) with a plaque while the winner in the other sections receives KEW 20 million (USD 18,400) and a plaque.The jury board members and 20 other individuals including experienced journalists and representatives of artistic bodies decided to award KIM. He was appointed as the recipient for overcoming the hardship of making low-budget films and approaching the topics of the inner side of humans and the violence of society through an auteurist view to establish an outstanding stage for his artistic film.CHOI Eun-hui, the recipient of the Contributing Artist award, is an actress who led the golden era of Korean film in the 1960s with the late SHIN Sang-ok, her husband. She also has contributed to cultivating talented people since she founded Anyang Arts High School in 1966. KIM Go-eun, was chosen to receive the New Artist award for her bold and passionate acting in her debut film Eungyo.
