April Snow, the new film starring rising star BAE Yong-joon, opened shooting on February 4 in Samcheok City in Kangwon Province. The film is directed by HUR Jin-ho, one of Korea's most respected directors following his first two films Christmas in August (1998) and One Fine Spring Day (2001). It tells the story of a man and woman whose spouses are involved in a car crash which puts them into a coma. As they realize that their spouses have been having an affair, the two start to fall in love. Apart from BAE, who has reached an unprecedented level of popularity in Japan from his TV drama Winter Sonata, the film will also feature hit actress SON Ye-jin (The Classic, A Moment to Remember). RYU Seung-soo (Hi Dharma) and IM Sang-hyo play the couple's spouses. Produced by Blue Storm and sold internationally by Show East, the film has drawn forth intense interest from Japanese companies looking to buy distribution rights. As both BAE and SON are well-known to audiences throughout Asia for their films and TV dramas, expectations are high for the film's box-office performance in the region. Shooting will continue in Samcheok until May, with a release date scheduled for September.
