Walks aways with Special Jury Prize and Best Actor Award at Tokyo International Film Festival
Juvenile Offender, directed by
KANG Yi-kwan, won the Special Jury Prize at the 25th Tokyo International Film Festival.
SEO Young-ju, the main actor of the film, was also awarded the Best Actor Award, he is not only the first Korean actor to take home the prize but also its youngest ever recipient. Following their 2nd screening and the official press conference that accompanied its premiere on October 25th, the reactions were very favorable. The film's buzz raised expectactions for the film's awards prospects at the festival.
Juvenile Offender, which was also invited to the Toronto International Film Festival, took the spotlight again as the only Korean film in competition at this year's Tokyo International Film Festival. Woman On The Beach, directed by
HONG Sang-soo in 2006. The local media praised
Juvenile Offender by saying, “It is a film that passes through reality with delicate and cold eyes.” and “This is definitely the most outstanding film among all the films screened at this year’s Tokyo International Film Festival.”
Interest in the film's cast was also very high. Regarding
LEE Jung-hyun, who acted as the mother, they said, “Her acting and explosive energy was amazing. The mother image she created is unprecedented in film history.” Of SEO Young-ju, the recipient of the Award for Best Actor, they said, “His acting skill was as mature as grown up actors and his deep eyes were very impressive.”
Juvenile Offender will be released in Korea on November 22nd.
