  • by Darcy Paquet (KOFIC) /  Mar 03, 2006
  • Mexican audiences were given a wide-ranging taste of Korean cinema at the 3rd Mexico City International Contemporary Film Festival (FICCO), held from February 21 March 5. Each year the festival devotes a special section to the work of a single country, with 2004 focusing on India and 2005 on Iran. This year FICCO chose Korea, and in co-operation with KOFIC, showcased 8 Korean films including Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, Spying Cam, Spider Forest, Low Life, Crying Fist, Barking Dogs Never Bite, A Bittersweet Life, and April Snow. HONG Sangsoo's Tale of Cinema and KIM Ki-duk's 3-Iron screened in the Galas section of the festival, with IM Sang-soo's The President's Last Bang also included in the Official Selection. The festival screened close to 250 films in total, and drew large crowds of viewers. Korean director WHANG Cheol-mean was in attendance, together with HWANG Dong-mee of KOFIC's International Promotion department, to screen his film Spying Cam and answer questions from viewers. More information can be found at the festival's website at http://www.ficco.com.mx/ Darcy Paquet (KOFIC)
