  • Yeon Sangho’s Netflix Series HELLBOUND to Screen at London Film Festival
  • by Pierce Conran /  Sep 17, 2021
  • Ko Bongsoo’s HUMIDITY ALERT Also Invited to British Film Event

The BFI London Film Festival is returning for its 2021 edition on October 6 and set to be featured, among this year’s festivities are a sneak peek of a major Netflix Korea Original series and a Korean indie comedy.

Director Yeon Sangho, known the world over for his zombie smash Train to Busan (2016), returns this year with Hellbound, his first drama series, which will air exclusively on Netflix. The first three episodes of the six-part series will screen in London. Those same episodes debuted this month at the Toronto International Film Festival and will also screen at the Busan International Film Festival.

The show, which is based on the webtoon ‘The Hellbound’, written by Yeon and illustrated by Choi Gyuseok, who created the series together, takes place in a dystopia where a cult-like church led by a figure played by Yoo Ahin rises to prominence when demons appear on earth and drag sinners to hell.

Screening in the ‘Laugh’ strand will be Humidity Alert, the ninth feature by the prolific indie comedy filmmaker Ko Bongsoo, known for Delta Boys (2016) and Loser’s Adventure (2017). Humidity Alert follows a hot day in an arthouse theater where an indie film is set to premiere, but mishap follows after a mishap as the stifling day wears on.

Also featuring in the program will be Burning (2018) star Jun Jongseo in her American film debut Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon. In the Ana Lily Amirpour film, Jun plays Mona, a girl who has the ability to control others.
