  • Korean-Vietnamese Short BINH to Compete at SIGFF

This year’s 31st Singapore International Film Festival (SIGFF) will welcome HONG Sang-soo’s latest film The Woman Who Ran, as well as the co-produced short Binh from Vietnamese filmmaker Ostin FAM. This year’s festival is set to take place from November 26 to December 6.

Invited to the ‘Asian Vision’ section, The Woman Who Ran is the 24th film from acclaimed arthouse auteur HONG Sang-soo, which reunites him with star KIM Min-hee for the seventh time as a woman who visits several friends in Seoul while her husband is away on a business trip. The film had its world premiere in February at the Berlin International Film Festival, where it became only the second ever Korean film to earn the Silver Bear for Best Director from the main competition section. The film was also invited to the New York Film Festival and the San Sebastian International Film Festival, among many other prestigious events.

Ostin FAM’s Binh, a co-production between Vietnam, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand, has been invited to the ‘Southeast Asian Short Film Competition’. The film, which was co-sponsored by CGV Cinemas and the CJ Cultural Foundation and was a beneficiary of a Southeast Asian Short Film Grant from SGIFF, recently screened in the Asian Shorts Competition of this year’s Busan International Film Festival where it had its world premiere. Bình is the story of an alien who visits Earth in human form, investigating the construction site of a large temple.
