- Award-Winning Festival Hits Invited to Australia
The Melbourne International Film Festival will be back for its 68th edition next month and this year’s program will feature a pair of works from Korea. Festival favorites House of Hummingbird (2018) by KIM Bora and Hong Sangsoo’s latest work Hotel by the River are both invited to the Australian film jubilee which is scheduled to run from August 1 to 18.The feature debut of former short filmmaker KIM Bora, House of Hummingbird debuted in the New Currents competition of the Busan International Film Festival last year, where it earned both the KNN Audience Award and the NETPAC Award. Starting with its international debut in the Generation 14 plus section of the Berlin International Film Festival this year, where it earned the Grand Prix for the Best Feature, the acclaimed indie drama has earned scores of awards on the global festival circuit in 2019.Among the 20 prizes it has collected to date are the Best International Narrative Feature, Best Actress and Best Cinematography Award from the Tribeca Film Festival and the Grand Jury Award from the Seattle International Film Festival.The 23rd by celebrated auteur Hong Sangsoo, Hotel by the River debuted at the Locarno International Film Festival last year, where KI Joo-bong picked up the Silver Leopard for Best Actor for his role as an ailing poet who invites his sons to join him at a hotel in the countryside. KI was also awarded Best Actor at the Gijon International Film Festival, where the film also earned the Principado de Asturias Prize for Best Feature Film and the Best Script Prize.
