- HKIFF to Celebrate Centenary of Korean Cinema with 10-Film Program

- Acclaimed Classic and Contemporary Korean Films to Hit Hong Kong in March
The 43rd Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) has partnered with the Korean Film Council (KOFIC - Chairman, OH Seok Geun) to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of Korean films this year with a special “Centenary of Korean Cinema” program, which will include ten classic and contemporary Korean titles. In addition, various masterclasses, introductions and post-screening talks will be held.Attending the festival with his acclaimed new film BURNING (2018) will be master director LEE Chang-dong, who will visit Hong Kong with KOFIC chairman OH Seok Geun as well as his BURNING (2018) co-writer OH Jung-mi. The filmmaker will take part in a masterclass following a screening of his 2000 classic A Peppermint Candy.Other major contemporary names that will be celebrated in the section are BONG Joon-ho and Hong Sangsoo. BONG’s 2003 classic Memories Of Murder is included, as are Hong’s 1996 debut The Day A Pig Fell Into A Well and his most recent work Hotel by the River (2018).Several older classics from Korean cinema luminaries are also included, such as SHIN Sang-ok’s Mother And A Guest (1961), KIM Ki-young’s Ieoh Island (1977) and IM Kwon-taek’s Mandara (1981).Other more recent films that have been invited to screen at HKIFF include the heartwarming legal drama Innocent Witness from Punch (2011) director LEE Han, and the indie drama Our Body (2018), the debut work of HAN Ka-ram which debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival last year.
